SILVIA PEREZ-KING represents clients in appeals, administrative proceedings and pretrial litigation. She also has extensive experience writing and arguing dispositive motions in complex criminal and civil matters, through her years as a lawyer with the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Programs Branch, and as a law clerk to two Federal Judges. A Miami native fluent in Spanish, Ms. Perez-King has worked on federal cases ranging from Title VII, Section 1983, Civil and Criminal RICO, Admiralty, Civil Enforcement Actions, and Class Actions.

At Justice, she defended Federal agencies against statutory and constitutional claims. In private practice, she has represented businesses and individuals in commercial matters, from contract disputes to Fair Labor Standards Act claims. She prevailed in an Eleventh Circuit appeal of an attorneys’ fee award in Walker v. Iron Sushi LLC, 18-10617, 2018 WL 5778204 (11th Cir. Nov. 2, 2018) (see brief here).

She has also had success in Administrative matters. She got the Florida Department of Education to promulgate regulations implementing § 1002.66(a)(1), Florida Statutes, to enable children to apply for McKay scholarships without attending public school. She also brokered settlements involving individualized education plans (I.E.P.), arguing that Applied Behavioral Analysis (A.B.A.) was a therapeutic choice made by the Florida Legislature and not solely the desire of the child’s parents.
